Weekly Progress Report and Action Plan

Weekly Progress Report:

We created mock up sketches of our initial ideas and also now created a mock up on the computer to see the basic idea of what the magazine cover would look like. However it was on publisher, as no one in our group has photoshop at home, but it's the basic look of how we want it and with photoshop we can do it properly.

Action Plan:

Mock up of the articles, actual text and layout and also improve on the magazine front cover mock-ups. Start using photoshop to edit the front cover and create a first draft. Consider what pictures we are going to take ourselves, wether sticking to the furure stars aspect or having actual photo's taken by going to an actual match or outside the stadium.

Action Plan

Week 1- More research in magazines which target A/B readers. What conventions and techniques will be similar to ours?

Week 2- Decide on masthead of magazine. Also starting on the magazine cover.

Week 3- Finish magazine cover and half way through first magazine article.

Week 4- Finish the copy of the first article and starting second article.

Week 5- Complete second article and check all work for any improvements.

Planning and Research

Research:

From looking at various sports magazine front covers we have an idea of what the front cover is, which is have one image of a famous athlete, which is what is common on sports magazines, also in newspaper ones. As the audience is now changed to a more A/B audience, it's going to look more sophisticated and simple. The main athlete would be David Beckham as it corresponds to one of the articles that we are doing. The first article is going to be on the 10 most influential footballers of the decade and the second is going to be a preview of the upcoming French Open and Wimbledon tennis grand slams. We are also going to use Adobe Photoshop to make the magazines, and we will be using the same layout that other sports magazines use for their articles, A/B sport magazines use such as Four-Four-Two and Observer monthly.

Weekly Progress:

We know what we're going to do for each artcle and the front cover by looking at research on other sports magazines. We know that we will be using Dacid Beckham as the main image for the front cover and also the two articles. The first article is going to be on the 10 most influential footballers of the decade and the second is going to be a preview of the upcoming French Open and Wimbledon tennis grand slams. We also know what we will write about for both articles.

Sky Sports Magazine: There isn't that much pugs across the front cover, or any other information. This connotes that it's a subscription magazine and not one that you would pay for; which is shown by the lack of a barcode or price tag. The main image anchors what the main article is focusing on, which is the Premier League in this example. This text would be similar to mine to the extent that it's a sports magazine and that the main article would be on football. The masthead is on the top left corner, and isn't as eye catching and big as paying magazines as people who have this already know it's a sky sports magazine as it comes free with SKY.

This magazine would be along the lines of what I would be including from the front cover. There are a lot of pugs which is spread out across the front cover which connotes that they are attempting to sell the magazine by showing all of the information included with it, as it's not free like the Sky Sports magazine there are "exclusive" headlines and prizes to get people to buy the magazine. The masthead is used in big red font to be eye-catching. Taglines are used to try and make the stories interesting and pose questions to get the readers interested, something I might do on my front cover.

There is not a lot focused on writing, with more focused on the images and backgrounds which connote that sports magazine article aren't going to contain alot of information. The information is in a box isolated from the images which connote powerful images and effects are probaly more important than the actual article itself. The font is typical magazine font which connotes its professionalism.
